Chelsea Football Club is reportedly in advanced talks to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck. The 35-year-old forward is said to be eager to move to Stamford Bridge and reunite with new manager Xabi Alonso.

The acquisition of Welbeck aligns with a strategic shift for Chelsea, who have acknowledged a need to balance their recruitment of young talent with experienced players. Club owner Behdad Eghbali indicated in April that the team's player acquisition model requires a "tweak" to incorporate more seasoned professionals.

Welbeck joined Brighton from Watford in 2020 and has since scored 51 goals in 201 appearances for the club. He achieved a personal best of 13 league goals in 37 games last season. Brighton has declined to comment on the transfer speculation. Welbeck signed a one-year contract extension in March, which currently runs until the end of the 2026-27 season.
