Chelsea charged by FA over alleged discriminatory chanting
The Premier League club faces a charge relating to discriminatory behaviour by fans during their August win at Fulham.
Chelsea have been charged by the Football Association over alleged discriminatory behaviour by fans during their Premier League victory at Fulham on August 24. The charge relates to sectarian chanting by a small portion of supporters during the 3-2 win at Craven Cottage.
The FA stated that Chelsea FC allegedly failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters did not behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, or insulting way. The behaviour is further alleged to have been discriminatory, including a reference, whether express or implied, to religion or belief.
Following the match, Chelsea acknowledged receiving multiple reports of sectarian chanting from a small group of fans. The club stated that they do not condone any discriminatory chants and that any fans found guilty would face the strongest possible action.
This is not the first time Chelsea has addressed discriminatory behaviour. In 2021, the club condemned the actions of a fan seen on social media directing sectarian abuse at Aston Villa's Scottish international John McGinn.
