Chelsea Captain Reece James Undergoes Knee Surgery

Chelsea captain Reece James has successfully undergone surgery for a knee injury, the club announced.

James sustained the injury during training prior to Chelsea's recent 5-1 victory over Bournemouth. Following the incident, the decision was made for the defender to have surgical intervention.

The 26-year-old is now in the rehabilitation phase under the care of Chelsea's medical staff. The club has not provided a timeline for his return to play.

James has faced recurrent injury challenges in recent seasons, which led to him missing several international tournaments with England following the 2022 World Cup. His injury record saw improvement last season, enabling him to play a significant role in England's World Cup campaign. He was also among the players who withdrew from England duty during the most recent international break, which occurred before the start of November.

Chelsea's upcoming schedule includes a Premier League match against Everton, followed by home games against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. A Carabao Cup fixture against Liverpool is set to take place between these two league matches. The next international break is scheduled for early November.
