Charlie Woods, 17, experienced a frustrating end to his 2026 U.S. Junior Championship run at Saucon Valley Country Club on Wednesday, culminating in a heated exchange with a fan.
During a playoff for the final match-play berths, Woods bogeyed the first hole after his bid to win the championship concluded. After competitors secured birdies, the teenager attempted a 270-yard shot on the par-five hole, falling short of the green. As Woods prepared for his third shot, a fan's camera flash went off during his backswing, a moment captured in a viral video.
Woods was heard questioning the fan, saying, "Really, dude?" Another spectator commented, "Right in his swing." Following the disturbance, Woods missed his chip for birdie, ending the hole with a bogey. This outcome allowed Eli Wessel and Hudson Kutchma to advance to the 64-person match-play bracket.
The incident occurred a day after Woods was caught on a hot mic swearing on the par-three eleventh hole. In another viral video, Woods was heard exclaiming "Oh, f*** you" after his tee shot. However, that particular instance did not significantly affect his play, as he went on to make par on the hole.
These recent viral moments follow Woods' failure to qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship. He competed at Ohio State University's Scarlet Course for a qualifying spot but shot a five-over 76, missing the cut by six shots. A total of 13 golfers and two alternates advanced from that site.
The results mark a challenging period for Woods, who has struggled to achieve consistent strong finishes in his young golf career. He has participated in seven ranked events this season, with his best performance being a 19th-place finish at the Junior Orange Bowl International in January. He has not secured another top-25 finish this season. Woods is committed to playing golf at Florida State University after graduating high school next year.
