Charles Leclerc and Wife Alexandra Criticized for 'Too Much' Presence at F1 Races
Former F1 driver David Coulthard suggests the Ferrari star's family presence is distracting, while a former F1 WAG defends the evolving paddock culture.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has faced criticism from former Formula One driver David Coulthard regarding the presence of his wife, Alexandra, and their dog, Leo, at races, with Coulthard suggesting it amounts to "too much." The couple, who married in February, has become a notable presence in the racing paddock.
Coulthard, speaking on the "Up To Speed" podcast, implied that Leclerc's family and dog's appearances at Grand Prix weekends are a distraction. "It's not a weekend away picnic, is it? It's a Grand Prix, it's a serious business," Coulthard stated, attributing his view partly to being from an "older generation."
Leclerc, 28, is currently fifth in the drivers' standings, behind teammate Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Antonelli, George Russell, and Lando Norris. High expectations for Ferrari at the beginning of the season have not fully materialized.
However, Coulthard's remarks have drawn a defense from Brittny Button, wife of former world champion Jenson Button. Responding on Instagram, Button countered that the F1 paddock has historically been unwelcoming to women and praised the increasing inclusion of partners and families. "In my opinion, this is a great and positive change," she wrote.
Leclerc and Alexandra tied the knot in a ceremony in Monaco in February, shortly before the 2026 Formula One season commenced. Videos shared by Leclerc following the wedding showcased details of the ceremony, including Alexandra's dress, the exchange of rings, and the attendance of their dog, Leo. The couple was also seen driving a vintage 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, valued around £9 million.
Leclerc had previously posted on X, formerly Twitter, about his wedding, stating, "A day we'll forever remember. Part one is done and part 2 will be next year with all of our close ones."
