Carsten Sabathia III, son of former New York Yankees pitcher and Hall of Famer CC Sabathia, has signed his first professional baseball contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. The signing occurred on Tuesday, shortly after the club selected him in the 20th round of this year's MLB draft.
CC Sabathia, who celebrated his 46th birthday on the same day his son signed, shared the news on X, formerly Twitter. "Best Birthday ever. My son Carsten is officially a Brewer!!!" he wrote in a post that included a photo with his son and wife, Amber. In the image, Carsten is seen wearing a Brewers jersey and has a team hat on the desk where he signed the contract.
During his senior season at the University of Houston, Carsten played infield and posted a .283 batting average with a .374 on-base percentage and a .511 slugging percentage, including six home runs.
The elder Sabathia had a notable stint with the Brewers during the 2008 season, his 19-year major league career. He was acquired by Milwaukee at the trade deadline and recorded an 11-2 record with a 1.65 earned run average in 17 starts. That season, the Brewers reached the playoffs for the first time since 1982. Despite playing only half a season with the team, CC Sabathia was inducted into the Brewers' Wall of Honor in May.
