Casemiro has officially joined Inter Miami as a free agent, expressing his admiration for his new teammate Lionel Messi, whom he described as the "God of football." The Brazilian midfielder made his debut for the Herons in their 1-0 victory over CF Montreal in Major League Soccer.
Despite having options to continue his career in European football, Casemiro stated that Miami was his preferred destination. The defensive midfielder now joins a roster that includes former rivals Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
Having previously faced Messi during intense El Clásico matches in Spain, Casemiro spoke about the challenges of trying to contain the Argentine superstar. "The amount of trouble Messi gave me," Casemiro said. "I am very happy to be alongside him now and I want to continue winning titles with him. I want to enjoy being alongside him, help him and make him even greater. He is one of the gods of football, if not the God of football himself, and I want to help."
Casemiro also reflected on Brazil's elimination from the 2026 World Cup, referencing Erling Haaland's performance in that match. "What happened at the World Cup... we're talking about a team that has one of the best number 9s in the world, Haaland, and he scored twice," he commented. "It hurts to talk about the World Cup because, in the end, it was a dream I had in my career. But I'm lucky to have played in three World Cups for Brazil, which is incredible, because when I was a child I never dreamed that this would happen. I enjoyed it a lot."
With his European career and international commitments in mind, Casemiro is now focused on pursuing more trophies in the United States. He aims to help Inter Miami secure a title, with the team's next MLS match scheduled against Columbus.
