Carson Palmer is cultivating a championship program at Santa Margarita High School, leading the Eagles to a 6-0 record this season.

On Friday night, Santa Margarita secured a significant victory, defeating Mater Dei 14-7 for the second consecutive year. Mater Dei entered the game ranked No. 18 nationally.

Palmer described the win as a "complete team game" in a post-game interview with CBS' Jill Painter Lopez. The Eagles, now ranked No. 4 nationally, found their game-winning points in the third quarter. Palmer's son, Fletch, connected with wide receiver Grant Van Raaphorst on a 4-yard touchdown pass. The victory was sealed in the final seconds of the fourth quarter when freshman safety Jayden Jack intercepted a pass.

"Wild second half; our defense was on the field forever. They fought hard until the very end," Palmer stated. "We got after the passer that whole last drive."

The Eagles' defense proved formidable, recording seven sacks against Mater Dei. "It was really exciting for us; we’re 6-0 heading into our homecoming game against Servite, which is another big game for us," Palmer added.

Offensively, Fletch Palmer completed 13 of 20 passes for 155 yards. A crucial 34-yard completion to Van Raaporhorst late in the second quarter set up the Eagles' first touchdown, a 1-yard run by Adrian Petero.

"It was a violent, physical game. We talked about it being violent all week," Carson Palmer said. "Offensively, we ran the ball effectively. We threw it effectively. The offensive line did a phenomenal job in the run game and the pass game. I think we only had one sack there."
