Adam Brubaker, head football coach at Royal High School in Simi Valley, California, has been fired after a video circulated online showing him kicking a football into a player's groin during a practice.
The incident led to Brubaker being placed on administrative leave while the Simi Valley Unified School District conducted a review. The district confirmed his termination on Friday.
The video depicts Brubaker shouting at a player identified as Julian before striking him with the football. The player fell to the ground in pain. Reports indicate the outburst followed the player's tackle that accidentally injured a star teammate.
Brubaker, who joined Royal High School in mid-2025, acknowledged that he did not delete the practice footage and apologized to the player afterward, an apology Julian accepted.
"I had a chance to delete the practice film and I didn't. I felt that tampering with the footage would be worse," Brubaker stated. "I walked up to Julian after practice and apologized. I explained myself to him, and he accepted my apology."
Brubaker previously coached at Panorama High School. In his single season with Royal High, the team finished with a 3-7 record.
