The Indiana Fever's recent game against the Chicago Sky, featuring superstar Caitlin Clark, attracted 3.31 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, marking the most-watched WNBA regular-season game since 1997 and the third most-watched ever. The audience peaked at 3.82 million viewers.

Clark's impact on the league's viewership has been evident throughout the season. Her previous game on July 12 against the Las Vegas Aces averaged 2.64 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. The Aug. 16 game between the Fever and the Atlanta Dream also set a record for the largest cable audience in league history.

The highly anticipated matchup on Sunday night was further intensified by pre-game narratives. DiJonai Carrington of the Chicago Sky fueled personal animosity by referencing a previous incident where she was ejected after a flagrant foul on Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, and later posted "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on social media. Carrington and Clark also have a history, including a playoff encounter where Carrington poked Clark in the eye and mocked her for perceived flopping.

Adding to the spectacle, former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom attended the game wearing a shirt that read, "WOMAN noun. adult human female." Kanter has been vocal in the debate surrounding women's sports and transgender athletes. During the game, he engaged in a verbal altercation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud before being escorted from the arena and subsequently banned from future Sky home games.

Despite these additional storylines, Clark's performance was central to the game's draw. She scored 37 points, made 8 of 12 three-point attempts, and provided 10 assists. In contrast, Carrington scored 7 points on 3-of-11 shooting.

The combination of Clark's star power, the personal rivalry with Carrington, and the controversy involving Kanter created a recipe for record-breaking viewership, cementing the Indiana Fever's games as must-watch television.
