Burnley Sacks Manager Nicky Hayen After Poor Start to Season
Belgian coach removed after just 14 games following sixth defeat of the campaign.
Burnley has sacked head coach Nicky Hayen after only 14 games in charge, citing a poor start to the season. His final match was a 4-1 loss to Lincoln City on Saturday, marking the team's sixth defeat of the current campaign and leaving them 22nd in the Championship standings.
Hayen, who was appointed on July 10 to succeed Scott Parker, was tasked with overseeing a promotion bid. The Clarets had been relegated from the Premier League at the end of April. The club announced Hayen's dismissal with a brief statement issued within two hours of the loss at the ProAmpac Stadium.
Despite a promising draw against West Ham on the opening weekend, Burnley's season has struggled. The team has not secured a home win in the league for over a year, with their last home victory coming against Leeds United in the Premier League. Although they achieved a decisive 4-0 win against Watford earlier this month, subsequent draws against Charlton and losses to Wolves, where they conceded first in both matches, have contributed to their difficult position.
The defeat to Lincoln City means Burnley has secured only one win in their last 24 league games. Furthermore, they have conceded 25 goals in their opening 12 Championship matches, the worst defensive record in the division.
