Burgled While Playing: Footballer Antony Shares Emotional Account of Home Invasion

Footballer Antony revealed his home was burgled while he was playing in a Champions League match this week, leading him to express deep sadness and frustration.

Antony, 26, was on the field for Real Betis' 3-2 victory over Porto on Tuesday when the incident occurred. He had contributed to the team's win by providing an assist for Cucho Hernandez's equalizing goal.

Following the match, Antony took to social media to share the distressing news. He stated that while he was upset about the stolen belongings, his primary concern was the fear instilled in his family.

"What should have been a beautiful night ended in anger and frustration. My house was robbed," Antony wrote on his Instagram story. "It's hard to describe the feeling of having your home broken into. Everything we worked so hard for and poured our hearts into obtaining was taken by someone who has no idea how much hardship we went through to get it."

He continued, "The most infuriating thing is not just the loss of belongings, but the loss of security in a place where we should feel most protected, and seeing the unease in my family's eyes. But after all this, one thing makes me even more certain: in this world, no possession is more precious than the lives and safety of my family."

Despite the unsettling experience, Antony expressed determination to overcome the setback. "What was lost, we can earn back. The effort will not stop, the dream remains, and the determination to win has not diminished in the slightest," he stated. "What truly matters is that when I look at my family, I know we are still together, united, and have the strength to overcome this difficulty."

Antony, who grew up in poverty in a Sao Paulo favela, has previously spoken about his challenging upbringing. He recalled times without proper football boots or sufficient food, and sleeping on a sofa due to inadequate housing.

This incident is not isolated. Other high-profile footballers have also experienced burglaries while playing. Manchester City captain Ruben Dias's home was targeted in January of the same year City played Galatasaray in the Champions League. Real Madrid's Karim Benzema has had his home targeted multiple times, and Raheem Sterling's property was robbed in 2022 while he was representing England at the World Cup in Qatar.
