Bubba Watson confronted a fan during the second round of LIV Golf Indianapolis after the spectator repeatedly shouted during play. The incident occurred as Lee Westwood was preparing to hit an approach shot.
Watson, playing alongside Westwood and Bryson DeChambeau, was seen on video walking toward the fan. The spectator had been shouting "Bryson, Bryson," prompting Watson to step away from his own shot. Watson then challenged the fan directly, saying, "Oh, you don’t want to say anything now? Say something, I'm looking at ya, say it." The fan remained silent.
Watson carded a 2-under 68 on Friday, his first top-10 finish in 11 starts on the LIV Golf circuit in 2026. He had previously missed the cut in his only major championship appearance of the season at The Masters in April.
The incident takes place amid ongoing uncertainty regarding LIV Golf's future. In April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced it would cease funding for LIV Golf beyond the 2026 season. This led to the cancellation of the LIV Team Championship in Michigan and the rescheduling of the season finale to the current event in Indianapolis. The purse for the finale was also reduced from $20 million to $10.1 million.
LIV Golf is also facing a lawsuit from Fresh Tape Media, which is reportedly seeking $1.2 million in alleged unpaid dues and interest for its work producing LIV's preseason media days. Earlier in August, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil announced that an unnamed investor had been secured to ensure the circuit's continuation into 2027. Details about this investor have not been disclosed. The organization has stated that 'LIV 2.0' will involve players holding a majority of equity and plans for 10 tournaments per season, with five in the United States and five internationally.
