Brydon Carse Charged with Bringing Cricket into Disrepute

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been charged with bringing the game into disrepute following an investigation by the Cricket Regulator. The charge stems from his arrest in August for being drunk and disorderly outside a Derby nightclub.

Carse's case will now be heard by the Cricket Discipline Panel. A guilty verdict could result in a fine or suspension. While Derbyshire Police closed their criminal investigation without bringing charges against Carse, the disciplinary proceedings are separate.

The 31-year-old has not represented England in international cricket since the Sydney Ashes Test in January. An injury subsequently delayed his return to county cricket for Durham. His arrest occurred while celebrating a championship match victory with teammates Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts.

White-ball coach Brendon McCullum had previously stated that Carse needed to "get his house in order" before being considered for selection. Harry Brook, a close friend of Carse and England's white-ball captain, commented that Carse needs "time away from the international scene" and is "working on a few things behind the scenes."

Carse was not included in England's 16-man squad for a one-day tri-series in Pakistan this month. The next potential opportunity for selection is a white-ball tour to Australia in November. Depending on the outcome of the disciplinary panel, Carse may have already served any potential ban by that time.

England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Richard Thompson recently acknowledged that some off-field behavior within the England team had been "totally unacceptable," but expressed optimism that the "worst of it" had passed.
