San Francisco Giants rookie Bryce Eldridge has made his aspirations clear: he hopes to one day participate in Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby. Eldridge, who has seven career home runs, confirmed he has not been invited to the upcoming event but stated he would be eager to accept an invitation should one arise.
"I think if anyone got the opportunity to do it, they’d be a fool not to do it. It is, like, one of the coolest things you can do as a player, in my opinion," Eldridge told the Post. The 6-foot-7 first baseman has showcased significant power in his early career, with one blast at Coors Field measured at 458 feet, setting a new record for the longest home run by a Giant this season.
Eldridge is one of seven players in the league with multiple home runs of at least 450 feet this season. He has achieved this feat in just 57 games and 226 plate appearances. Other players in this group include Kyle Schwarber, Junior Caminero, Shea Langeliers, Nick Kurtz, Jordan Walker, and Cam Smith. Eldridge and Smith are the only players in this group with fewer than 20 home runs.
Eldridge's childhood fascination with the Home Run Derby, even more so than the All-Star Game, fuels his ambition. He recalled watching Bryce Harper win the derby in his hometown ballpark when Eldridge was 13 years old.
While an invitation this year is unlikely, Eldridge's potential for future power displays could position him for the event in the coming seasons. The article also notes the possibility of San Francisco hosting the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby in 2028, a prospect Eldridge finds appealing.
"That'd be sick. It's a good place to hit — hit it out to right," Eldridge said, referencing the potential of hitting at Oracle Park.
