Arsenal has secured the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United for a reported fee of £75 million. The 28-year-old has agreed to a four-year contract, with an option for an additional 12 months.

Guimaraes expressed that the move was one of the most difficult decisions of his career due to his strong connection with Newcastle. "This move is very tough because Newcastle means so much to me," he stated. "But I wanted to experience something new in my life. I feel ready for a new challenge for myself and my family."

He left Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain, earlier this week to finalize the transfer to Emirates Stadium. Guimaraes indicated that he received messages from several future Arsenal teammates, including compatriot Gabriel and midfielder Declan Rice, who reportedly told him, "come here and please no more fights, now we're friends."

"I'm at the point of my life, I think I need a challenge like this," Guimaraes said. "I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I'm in the right place to do it. I'm so excited to start."

Guimaraes joined Newcastle in January 2022 when the team was in danger of relegation. He played a significant role in their subsequent improvement under former head coach Eddie Howe. He captained Newcastle to victory in the 2025 EFL Cup final, their first major domestic trophy in seven decades, and was part of the squads that qualified for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025. The team finished 12th in the Premier League last season.

Newcastle United acknowledged the transfer, stating they wished Guimaraes and his family well.
