Ciarre Campbell, the brother of Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell, has been charged with murder after their mother was found dead in an Atlanta home. Police responded to the residence for a welfare check around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and discovered the 71-year-old victim, identified as Nateal Campbell.

According to arrest warrants, Nateal Campbell's throat was cut and a knife was found in her possession. Ciarre Campbell was taken into custody and booked into the Fulton County Jail. He faces charges including aggravated assault and murder, with an initial court hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning. Online court records did not list an attorney for Ciarre Campbell.

The Campbell family released a statement expressing their grief and requesting privacy. "We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell," the statement read. "While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Calais Campbell, a 19th-year NFL veteran, signed a one-year contract with the Ravens in April. The 39-year-old defensive lineman has been a six-time Pro Bowl selection and was named a first-team AP All-Pro in 2017. He began his career with the Arizona Cardinals in 2008 and has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons.
