Great Britain is preparing to bid for the opportunity to host the FIFA World Cup in either 2038 or 2042. Prime Minister Andy Burnham views the football tournament as a chance to stimulate investment, tourism, and regeneration across the nation, particularly outside of London.
The last time the United Kingdom hosted the World Cup was in 1966, the same year England secured their historic victory. The upcoming 2030 World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal, followed by Saudi Arabia hosting in 2034, making 2038 and 2042 the next available tournament slots.
Burnham reportedly discussed the possibility of a bid with colleagues, signaling a strategic interest in leveraging the global event for economic development. England recently reached the semi-finals of the current World Cup, which was hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
