Brighton Defender Pascal Struijk's Red Card Overturned After VAR Review

Brighton defender Pascal Struijk has had his red card, controversially issued during a match against Sunderland, overturned. The decision was reversed following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

Struijk was initially shown a straight red card in the 57th minute of the match at the Stadium of Light. Referee Thomas Bramall issued the card after an intervention from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Neil Davies, who advised the on-field official to review an incident where Struijk was adjudged to have fouled Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor as he attempted to run onto a through-ball. Neither the on-field referee nor his assistant had initially called a foul.

After reviewing the incident multiple times on the pitchside monitor, Bramall determined that Struijk had denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. This decision was met with disbelief from Brighton players and supporters. However, the Football Association has since reversed the card.
