Brewers on Brink of First World Series Title After Dominant Game 3 Victory

The Milwaukee Brewers are on the verge of their first World Series championship after a resounding 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 on Monday. The win gives the Brewers a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, with many fans and observers calling the Fall Classic a disappointment due to its lopsided nature.

A pivotal eight-run fifth inning propelled the Brewers to their commanding advantage. Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser pitched six innings of one-hit ball, facing the minimum batters through six. He became the first starter in a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001 to achieve this feat through six innings, and the first left-hander since Sandy Koufax in 1965.

"It's super special," said Brewers star Jackson Chourio, who went 4 for 5 with four hits and a stolen base in Game 3. "I think all these fans deserve a championship."

Many fans who could not attend the game in Tampa gathered for watch parties in Milwaukee. However, for Rays supporters and those without a rooting interest, the series has been criticized as unwatchable. "Most boring World Series on record," one fan wrote on X. "Sad to see for the sport."

This sentiment was echoed by others, with one fan adding, "Most boring World Series of all time not gonna lie. This is one of the most lopsided matchups I have ever seen."

Things were much closer in the first two games in Milwaukee, where the Brewers secured one-run victories. Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy noted that the series shifted after the Rays squandered a four-run lead in Game 2. "Tampa can stop pretending to care about baseball now," Portnoy wrote. "This series was dead and buried after the Rays blew 4-0 lead in game 2."

In Game 3, Milwaukee amassed 16 hits against Rays starter "Fastball Freddy" Peralta and five relievers. The Brewers extended their postseason winning streak to eight games. Of the 43 previous major league teams to trail 3-0 in a best-of-seven postseason series, only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have rallied to win.

Rays manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the situation: "It's kind of that chip and a chair mentality. We've got a seat at the table. We've got to do something with the chip. Obviously the only thing we can do is win tomorrow."

The Brewers' offense exploded in the fifth inning with a postseason-record seven consecutive hits with two outs. This marked the first time in World Series history a team scored eight two-out runs in a single inning.

"I was sitting in the dugout getting ready to go. There was two outs, and next thing you know, 40 minutes later, I have to go out on the field," Gasser said. "It was special. I had a smile on my face the whole time. It's just surreal when something like that happens."

After the fifth-inning rally, the Brewers added to their lead. Chourio singled to start the rally, stole second, and later drove in runs with a double. William Contreras was 3 for 5, and Sal Frelick contributed an RBI double. Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth for Milwaukee, his first appearance in 3 1/2 months.

Historically, of the 25 previous teams that led a World Series 3-0, 21 swept their opponents, and four won in five games. The Brewers, originally the Seattle Pilots in 1969, moved to Milwaukee and became the Brewers in 1970. Their only prior World Series appearance was in 1982, resulting in a Game 7 loss to St. Louis.

The Rays, who led the American League with 98 wins in the regular season, have not won a World Series in their 29 seasons, having lost in 2008 and 2020. Their home ballpark, Tropicana Field, underwent significant renovations after its roof was damaged by Hurricane Milton in October 2024.

Led by 67-year-old manager Pat Murphy, the Brewers need one more victory to end their championship drought. With a Game 4 win, they would become the first team to sweep both the LCS and the World Series since the 1976 Cincinnati Reds.

Chourio expressed confidence: "We have been preparing for this day a lot. We have one more to lock in for tomorrow to complete the mission."
