Brewers Manager Appears to Critique Yankees in World Series Celebration
Pat Murphy's post-game comments to Jake Bauers, a former Yankee, referenced the team's past struggles.
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy seemingly directed criticism toward the New York Yankees during the team's celebration of their first World Series title. The comments were made to first baseman Jake Bauers, who previously played for the Yankees.
As Bauers, the NLCS MVP, handed Murphy the ball from the final out, the manager appeared to tell him, "You're going to be a rich f---er. Just remember when you were on that horses--- Yankees team and you guys were all playing for yourself? Just remember, say, 'This is the way we used to do it.'"
Bauers played for the Yankees in 2023, the only season since 2016 in which the team missed the postseason. He batted .202 during his time in New York before being traded in the following offseason. Bauers then had a career-best season in 2026, hitting .266 with 26 home runs and 86 RBIs.
The Yankees have faced significant criticism following their postseason elimination. Former players Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter have commented on the need for a philosophical change and an attention to detail, respectively. Other former Yankees, including CC Sabathia, Anthony Rizzo, and Jorge Posada, have also publicly criticized the team's postseason performance since 2010.
