Brewers' Closer Slams Tropicana Field Roof Design

Milwaukee Brewers closer Trevor Megill voiced strong criticism of Tropicana Field's roof design ahead of Game 3 of the World Series, describing the decision to match the roof's color to the baseball as the work of a "f---ing idiot."

Megill's remarks highlighted ongoing player dissatisfaction with the St. Petersburg stadium, which has drawn criticism for its unique architectural features, including catwalks and roof support systems that are in play.

The Rays are hosting the World Series at Tropicana Field for the first time since 2008. The stadium underwent significant repairs and a roof replacement in 2004 after Hurricane Milton. The current, brighter roof has been a point of contention for opposing players.

Prior to Game 3, Megill told reporters that "whoever decided to make the roof the same g--damn color as the baseball is a f---ing idiot." His comments, shared by WISN 12 reporter Dario Melendez, point to the difficulty players face in tracking fly balls against the stadium's distinctive ceiling.

The Brewers reportedly spent considerable time during practice sessions preparing for balls hit into the roof or ricocheting off the support structures, indicating a strategic acknowledgment of the stadium's challenging environment.

Despite potential distractions from the stadium's design, the Brewers took a commanding lead in the series. In Game 3, starting pitcher Robert Gasser delivered a historic performance, becoming the first lefty to pitch six shutout innings while facing the minimum batters in a World Series game since Sandy Koufax. The Brewers secured a dominant victory, pushing them closer to their first World Series championship.

Milwaukee holds a significant lead in the series, aiming to become the first team in history to sweep both the NLCS and the World Series with a 9-0 playoff record entering Game 4. The team will send Dustin May to the mound, while the Rays plan to use bulk pitcher Griffin Jax in an effort to extend the series.
