Brentford Football Club has agreed to a £41 million deal to sign midfielder Mamadou Sangare from Lens, with the 24-year-old player set to travel to the United Kingdom for a medical. The transfer was preceded by a meeting between Sangare and club officials in Paris.

A sell-on clause is reportedly included in the agreement, which also stipulates a percentage for Sangare's former club, Rapid Vienna.

The transfer fee falls just short of Brentford's club record, which was the £42 million paid to Bournemouth for Dango Ouattara in the previous summer transfer window. Talks between Jordan Henderson and Chelsea have advanced, with the 36-year-old midfielder expected to bring experience to Xabi Alonso's squad. Chelsea has reportedly shifted its summer strategy to prioritize signing older players rather than focusing solely on youth.

Brentford confirmed the mutual termination of Henderson's contract, which was effective one year after his arrival at the club. Since departing Liverpool in 2023, Henderson has had spells with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, Ajax, and most recently, Brentford.

Brentford had a long-standing interest in Sangare and faced competition from at least two other English clubs, including Crystal Palace, before securing the deal.

Mamadou Sangare is preparing to travel to the UK for a medical as Brentford close in on a £41 million deal for the midfielder. The transfer follows the departure of Jordan Henderson, who is nearing a move to Chelsea.
