Coritiba captain Jacy Maranhao provided an update on his condition after a viral incident where he fell through a hole in the stadium during a goal celebration. Maranhao sustained an ankle injury during the play.

The 29-year-old defender scored for his Coritiba club at Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira and, in his excitement, attempted to celebrate with his pregnant wife in the crowd. He jumped over the pitchside barrier, unaware that a trap door on the other side was open.

"I got carried away," Maranhao said, according to Brazilian outlet Globo. "I scored the goal and wanted to celebrate with my wife because she’s pregnant. But then I remembered it was my first goal at Couto Pereira stadium, and I also wanted to celebrate with the fans, but I hadn’t remembered there was a moat there."

He described the fall as feeling like "you’re falling from a building." Although his goal was later disallowed by VAR for offsides, Coritiba went on to win the match 2-1. Maranhao was able to continue playing for the remainder of the first half despite his injury before being substituted.

Maranhao later shared an update on social media, stating, "At first it was more of a scare than anything else. During the match my foot was quite painful and I couldn’t really put weight on it, but today I’m feeling much better and recovering well."

Maranhao, who previously played for Operário in 2024 and 2025, is in his second season with Coritiba. He has scored one goal in 19 matches played this season for the club, which was promoted to Série A after competing in Série B last year.
