Troubled NFL star Brandon Aiyuk has enlisted Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent, signaling a potential desire to resume his playing career. Aiyuk has not played since October 2024, when he sustained a knee injury, and has been on the reserve/left squad list after departing the San Francisco 49ers late last season.

The 28-year-old wide receiver had previously parted ways with agent Ryan Williams during his prolonged dispute with the 49ers. Rosenhaus confirmed on Monday that he had been hired.

Aiyuk remains under contract with the 49ers and could seek reinstatement if he applies to come off the reserve/left squad list. However, San Francisco general manager John Lynch has previously stated that he does not anticipate Aiyuk playing for the team again.

The 49ers had previously voided $27 million in guaranteed money for Aiyuk's 2026 contract, citing his failure to participate in team activities last summer while rehabilitating his knee injury. Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million extension just before the 2024 season began, following a lengthy contract hold-in that kept him out of training camp. In the 2023 season, he recorded 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, earning second-team All-Pro honors.

He accumulated 25 catches for 374 yards in seven games during the 2024 season before his injury. Since being drafted in the first round in 2020, Aiyuk has amassed 294 receptions for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns.

In recent months, Aiyuk has drawn criticism for several controversial social media posts. These included jokes about 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's offseason car accident, where Shanahan suffered a broken hand, three broken ribs, and a concussion. Aiyuk also faced an arrest warrant in California related to a December YouTube post that appeared to show him driving a Cadillac at over 100 mph.

Around the time of these incidents, the team placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list. Shanahan acknowledged at the time that he had not seen Aiyuk "in forever." Additionally, Aiyuk faced backlash for a video that appeared to show him feeding raw chicken to his dogs and then kicking one of them. He also accused the NFL Players Association of initiating a "smear campaign" against him.
