San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk said he is considering avoiding California for the foreseeable future due to an arrest warrant issued earlier this year. Aiyuk, who has been away from Northern California for months, expressed these sentiments in a video posted to his Instagram page.
"Can anybody tell me if I really have a warrant out for my arrest in California?" Aiyuk asked in the video. "'Cause my bro say he's trying to throw in Cali, but if I got a warrant, bro, I might just stay out here then."
The Santa Clara Police Department obtained a warrant for Aiyuk's arrest on February 24, following allegations of misdemeanor exhibition of speed on December 20. According to Lt. Eric Lagergren of the Santa Clara Police Department, officers identified the offense through a video Aiyuk shared showing him traveling over 100 mph in a Cadillac on a roadway near Levi's Stadium, where the posted speed limit was 40 mph. Authorities determined that a vehicle similar to the one in the video was owned by Aiyuk. The case was submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office on January 15, 2026, which subsequently issued the warrant.
Aiyuk has not played in a game since injuring his knee during the 2024 season. Reports indicate his prolonged absence from the team has complicated potential trade discussions. Aiyuk has also publicly stated his desire to play for the Washington Commanders.
During his five seasons with the 49ers, Aiyuk recorded 4,305 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns on 294 receptions.
