Brad Marchand Leaves Panthers Game With Leg Injury

Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand sustained a left leg injury in the second period of the team's 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

Marchand did not return for the third period, and head coach Paul Maurice stated that he would be evaluated on Thursday. The injury occurred when Marchand took a stick to the face from Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke with less than a minute remaining in the second period. Marchand then twisted, collided with the goal post, and his left leg bent awkwardly.

Athletic trainers attended to Marchand on the ice for several minutes. Teammates Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola assisted him to the bench, as he was unable to put weight on his leg. He was subsequently helped to the dressing room.

This incident marks Marchand's second game back after missing the preseason and the first two regular-season games while recovering from sports hernia surgery. Marchand, 38, is in his third season with the Panthers, having previously played 16 seasons with the Boston Bruins before being traded to Florida in March 2025. He was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in the 2025 season.

The Panthers have also recently been dealing with injuries to other key players. Aleksander Barkov, a top center, suffered a left leg injury in an overtime loss to San Jose on Thursday. Maurice indicated that Barkov is expected to miss six to eight weeks and will not require surgery.

Clarke was assessed a four-minute double-minor penalty for his play that led to Marchand's injury. He also received a penalty earlier in the period for interference against Eetu Luostarinen, who sustained a stinger but returned to the game.
