Bowie Seizes Scotland Opportunity After World Cup Disappointment

Kieron Bowie is seizing his opportunity to make an impact for Scotland, scoring his first international goal in a 2-0 victory over North Macedonia, a significant moment after earlier World Cup disappointment. The forward netted with a precisely struck finish, a highlight in his first international start.

Bowie's performance in the match saw him lead the team in several statistical categories, including seven shots, four on target, five shots in the box, and 11 touches in the opposition's box. He played upfront alongside Oli McBurnie in a 3-4-1-2 formation deployed by head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.

"You play all your life to represent a country and to score a goal is just an unbelievable feeling," said the 24-year-old Bowie. "This manager's come in and he's put a lot of trust in me. I think the style that he wants to play definitely plays into my strengths."

The team's recent emphasis on a "process" under Pocognoli involves implementing a new system and mindset, alongside integrating new players. Bowie, currently on loan at Sassuolo, believes this period is crucial for his development and for the team to gel.

"It's a lot longer international break. We spend a lot more time together so it's good for him to get his message across and his ideas. Also, we play more games so we have to train a little bit less of course," Bowie explained. "I think for me it's a fresh start with a new coach and different ideas."

Bowie, who debuted for Raith Rovers at 16, feels he has evolved significantly since his earlier days at Hibernian. "I think people, obviously Scottish fans, have the same idea of how I was when I was at Hibs and that's all they can remember. But I feel like since I moved to Serie A, it's a different league, different challenge and I'm getting more experience at a higher level. So, yeah, I feel like I've definitely kicked into another gear and I feel like I'm showing that."
