Bottas Cycles to Singapore Grand Prix, Opting for 350km Off-Road Journey
Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas bypasses private jets for a challenging cycling trip from Malaysia to Singapore.
Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas has chosen an unconventional route to the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, opting to cycle approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) from Malaysia.
While most drivers utilize private jets for travel between races, the 37-year-old Finnish driver has embarked on a multi-day journey across Asia. Bottas began his expedition shortly after crashing out of the recent Bahrain Grand Prix, which was held in Malaysia due to security concerns in the Middle East. He is documenting his trip on social media, sharing videos and photos of his progress.
Bottas is accompanied on his journey by his partner, professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell. The couple needs to reach Singapore by Thursday to fulfill media obligations for the Grand Prix. The route is primarily off-road and on gravel surfaces. On the second day of his ride, Bottas covered 161.91 kilometers over nearly six hours.
This cycling endeavor is not out of character for Bottas, who has a history of participating in cycling-related events. Earlier this summer, he qualified for the Gravel World Championships by finishing fifth in an off-road qualifying event in the Czech Republic, though he will be unable to compete in the championship itself due to his F1 commitments this weekend. He has also previously taken part in gravel races and is involved with FNLD GRVL, an annual race held in his native Finland.
Bottas, who has ten F1 career wins, has experienced a challenging 2026 season with Cadillac. In 16 races this season, he has yet to score a point and has failed to finish eight of them. He previously served as a reserve driver for Mercedes last year.
