Bottas Cycles 350km to Singapore Grand Prix, Snubbing Private Jets
Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas opted for a unique 350km cycling journey from Malaysia to Singapore, foregoing private jet travel for the upcoming Grand Prix.
Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas has chosen an unconventional mode of transport to reach the Singapore Grand Prix, undertaking a 350-kilometer (217-mile) cycling journey from Malaysia. This decision contrasts with the typical travel methods of most drivers, who commonly use private jets to attend races.
Bottas began his journey shortly after crashing out of the Bahrain Grand Prix, which was held in Malaysia due to security concerns in the Middle East. He has been documenting his expedition on social media, sharing videos and photos of his travels. In one post on X, Bottas shared a video of himself cycling at night, stating, "Yea I'm riding to Singapore. On the gravel roads less travelled with my new @canyon_bikes Grail CFR. See you there."
Accompanying Bottas on this endeavor is his partner, professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell. The driver needs to arrive in Singapore by Thursday to fulfill his media commitments. The route is off-road and on gravel, and on the second day of his ride, Bottas covered 161.91 kilometers in nearly six hours.
This is not Bottas's first foray into cycling-related pursuits. He previously qualified for the Gravel World Championships after securing fifth place in an off-road qualifying event in the Czech Republic during the summer, though he will be unable to compete in the championship this weekend due to his Grand Prix commitments. He has also participated in other gravel races and is associated with FNLD GRVL, an annual race held in his native Finland.
Bottas, who has ten career Formula One wins, is currently in his first year with Cadillac and has had a challenging 2026 season. After 16 races, he has yet to score a point and has failed to finish eight of them.
