Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has declared himself physically ready for the 2026 season, reporting that his recovery from a fractured right ankle is ahead of schedule. Nix suffered the injury in January during the AFC divisional round and underwent two surgeries.

"I feel great," Nix told reporters. "I feel normal. Nothing’s holding me back. I’m out there playing like I normally do and feel really good in my spot. I’m going to continue to push it and progress, and also continue to physically get ready for this long season."

The third-year player sustained the fracture on Jan. 17 during a close game against the Bills. Following surgery days later, he had a second procedure in April. Despite the injury, Nix recorded 3,931 passing yards and 25 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in the 2025 season, with a 63.4 percent completion rate. He also added 356 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Nix emphasized that the injury will not impact his mobility in 2026. "I’m going to roll, and I’m going to be as athletic as I can be. It’s a strength of ours and we have to use our strengths," he said. He added that while he knows what it's like to play from the pocket without his full mobility, he feels most confident when he can move.

Broncos coach Sean Payton has previously described Nix's ability to evade pressure as "one of his superpowers." Nix was sacked 22 times in 2026 over a league-high 612 pass attempts. "It’s hard to sack some quarterbacks — he’s one of them," Payton remarked. "That was something you saw on college tape. In our league when you take a sack, you just do the analytics on what your points become in that drive, or likelihood to kick a field goal and it all drops dramatically. So it’s certainly one of his strengths."

Nix expressed confidence that his ability to move around the field will allow him to adapt to any defensive challenge.
