Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement has stated he will not wear a protective cup, even after recently fouling a baseball into his groin. Clement, who joined a list of Major League Baseball players to experience this painful scenario, including Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, said he has never worn a cup and has no intention of starting now.
When asked about the possibility of missing a ground ball and taking another errant shot, Clement responded that he feels responsible for such an outcome. "I always feel like if I miss a ground ball, it's my fault and I deserve to get hit in the nuts," Clement told Sportsnet's David Singh.
Not all Blue Jays players share Clement's stance. Catcher Brandon Valenzuela expressed a differing opinion, stating, "I have to protect the nuggets. I feel naked without it."
