Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver and his family are mourning the tragic loss of their 2-year-old son. A source close to the player confirmed the news to ESPN and NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, stating that Oliver, 28, is asking for privacy and prayers.
No further details regarding the circumstances of his son’s death have been immediately released. Oliver has been a key member of the Bills’ defensive front since the team selected him with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has played seven seasons with the organization.
Last season, Oliver’s playing time was limited after he sustained an ankle injury, followed by a torn biceps, which caused him to miss most of the season. He appeared in only three games for Buffalo in the previous year. First-year Bills coach Joe Brady mentioned on Thursday that Oliver was absent from a joint practice with the Browns due to an unspecified injury.
