Bo Bichette hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in the eighth inning Sunday, powering the New York Mets to a 4-2 comeback victory over the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field.
The Mets offense, which had been held scoreless for seven innings and trailed 2-0, came alive late in the game to secure the series win.
Eighth-Inning Rally
In the eighth inning, Brett Baty pinch-hit and hit an opposite-field solo home run. A.J. Ewing followed with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Torrens. Francisco Lindor hit a sinking liner to right that was caught, but the play allowed Ewing to advance to third base. After Juan Soto was intentionally walked, Bichette stepped up and hit a three-run homer to left field, giving the Mets the lead.
The Mets signed Bichette partly for his performance in clutch situations, and his home run delivered the decisive blow.
Despite having their playoff hopes out of reach for the season, the Mets have continued to demonstrate a commitment to winning, as evidenced by their late-game rally and series victory.
