The New York Yankees secured their ninth win in the last 12 games, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 on Saturday night. However, the victory was tempered by an apparent injury to outfielder Cody Bellinger in the eighth inning.

Despite a rocky start, pitcher Ryan Weathers delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run across 5 2/3 innings. He was supported by a bullpen that included scoreless outings from Angel Chivilli, Paul Blackburn, and David Bednar, who extended his scoreless streak to 20 appearances. The Yankees' bullpen has now held opponents scoreless for three consecutive games.

Offensively, Austin Wells tied the game in the third inning with a 430-foot solo home run, his second in his last eight games. Wells, who had been struggling for much of the season, has shown recent improvement, batting .286 with a .995 OPS over his last eight games. Jasson Domínguez provided insurance in the seventh with a 420-foot home run, his second from the right side of the plate this season.

Bellinger’s single in the sixth inning gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead, but his concern came in the eighth when he appeared to injure himself running into second base on a double. He waved off the team trainer but later limped off the field and was replaced by Max Schuemann in left field.

Weathers’ outing was crucial, as he scattered six hits and one walk while striking out seven. The Phillies’ lone run came in the first inning when Trea Turner doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryce Harper. Weathers managed to escape further trouble in the first and stranded runners in the third and fourth innings.

The Yankees, now 59-45, remain two games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. They will aim for a sweep of the Phillies (56-49) on Sunday night.
