Bears LB Devin Bush Declares Jets Game 'One of the Easiest'
Chicago's Devin Bush expressed a lack of challenge during his team's decisive victory over the New York Jets.
Chicago Bears linebacker Devin Bush remarked that Sunday's 23-12 victory over the New York Jets was "probably one of the easiest NFL games" he has ever played, admitting to feeling bored at times during the contest. The Bears dominated possession, holding the ball for 42 minutes and 15 seconds to the Jets' 17 minutes and 15 seconds, running 89 plays compared to New York's 32.
Kyle Monangai was a key contributor for the Bears, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Tyson Bagent, filling in for an injured Caleb Williams, completed 25 of 34 passes for 268 yards with one interception. The Bears outgained the Jets 492-157 in total yards.
"It’s fun, man. We’ve got to get ourselves into more situations like that so we can get the offense the ball as much as possible," Bush said, according to the New York Post. "As you can see, they’re capable of doing a lot of great things. Holding the ball for what was it, 42 minutes? That is kind of wild."
Bush elaborated on his feeling of ease, stating, "I’m not sore at all. So it was great." He added that he became bored multiple times and had to stay warm, anticipating potential sudden change opportunities that he felt energized the defense.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson praised his defense's overall performance. "I thought those guys all stood out," Johnson said. "It was another one of those days where it’s hard to single out any particular guy. I just thought everyone played really good football on that side."
For the Jets, quarterback Geno Smith acknowledged the team's offensive shortcomings and the need for better complementary football. Head coach Aaron Glenn expressed surprise at the significant disparity in play time. "We have to do a better job of complementing each other and that did not show up today at all," Glenn said. "When you have the discrepancy of 89 plays and 32 plays, it’s something we have to look at and something we have to continue to work on. That’s the only thing we can do is continue to work."
The Jets' defense did achieve one positive milestone: Minkah Fitzpatrick's interception of Bagent's pass in the first half ended the team's 20-game streak without a takeaway. Despite the victory, Bush indicated that the Bears' performance suggests potential for further growth, even without their starting quarterback.
