Bayern Munich Manager Vincent Kompany Hospitalized After Collapsing at Training
The Belgian coach became unwell with a virus earlier in the week and missed a press conference but attended a Champions League match.
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was taken to the hospital on Friday after collapsing while observing a training session for the club's second team. The 40-year-old Belgian had been feeling unwell with a virus, which led him to miss a pre-match news conference on Tuesday ahead of Bayern's Champions League game against Arsenal. Despite his illness, Kompany was present on the sideline for that match.
In a statement, the Bundesliga club confirmed that Kompany "had to seek medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during training for FC Bayern's amateurs." The statement added that Kompany "will undergo thorough examination in the hospital and remain in medical care." For the interim period, Kompany's coaching staff will be responsible for managing training and match operations.
Bayern Munich's next fixture is scheduled against Freiburg in the German top flight on Sunday.
