Geelong Cats player Bailey Smith arrived two and a half hours late to the 2026 Brownlow Medal ceremony at the Crown Palladium, initially wearing a tracksuit. Smith, who had been rumored to be a no-show despite being a contender for the award, shared on Instagram that he had only five minutes to prepare for the event. He later changed into a grey tuxedo with white lapels and a grey bow tie.

Smith, known for his distinctive blonde hair, attended the event solo. Earlier reports indicated speculation about his absence due to soreness following shoulder surgery the previous week.

At the previous year's ceremony, Smith made a fashion statement with speed dealer-style sunglasses and an all-black tuxedo. He also spoke earlier in 2026 about his desire to start a family, stating that the thought of fatherhood drives him to be a better person and work harder.
