Estranged wife Monica Wright has publicly accused Australian women's cricket vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner of infidelity, naming teammate Georgia Voll as the player allegedly involved in their marriage breakdown. Wright made the accusation on her Instagram account on Monday, posting a photo of Voll with the statement, "this is who my wife cheated on me with."
Wright's claim, which has been widely shared on social media and reported by various media outlets, comes after an exclusive report detailing the split between Wright and Gardner. The initial report omitted certain allegations, including the identity of the alleged third party, as neither Gardner nor Voll had commented at the time.
Cricket Australia has not commented on the allegations despite repeated attempts by The Daily Mail to obtain a statement. Richard Hinds, Cricket Australia's senior communications chief, previously stated, "Yeah, no comment on that."
According to a source close to the situation who spoke to The Daily Mail, Gardner and Voll allegedly began a physical relationship in India during the ICC Women's World Cup in September and October of last year. Wright reportedly visited Gardner during the tournament, and the source described the atmosphere as "a little bit weird," noting that Gardner seemed distant.
Following their return to Sydney after the World Cup, the source alleged that Gardner confessed to Wright, stating, "I f**ked up." Although Gardner was initially reluctant to name the other person, she allegedly confessed to having slept with Voll after Wright pressed for details.
The source claims that Wright immediately messaged Voll, who did not respond. Wright was reportedly "shattered" and "distraught" by the confession. The couple had reportedly been planning to start a family and had a fertility clinic appointment booked, which Wright had to cancel.
Gardner is understood to have moved out of the couple's home in November, leaving their wedding rings behind. The marriage breakdown has reportedly caused distress among other players on the Southern Stars team, as Wright had been a familiar presence within the team for five years and maintained good relationships with many players.
Despite the alleged disclosure to Cricket Australia's National Selection Panel when Gardner was appointed captain of the Sydney Sixers in November, she was later made co-vice-captain of the national team. Attempts to reconcile the marriage were unsuccessful.
Gardner and Wright met in 2020, became engaged in April 2024, and married in April 2025. Voll, 22, made her Test debut for Australia in January of the previous year and previously played in the Women's Big Bash League for the Brisbane Heat since 2020.
