Austin Reaves Sets NBA Guard Record for True Shooting Percentage
Lakers guard Austin Reaves is off to a historic start this season, leading the league in true shooting percentage and guiding his team to an undefeated record.
Austin Reaves is making NBA history with his exceptional shooting efficiency. The Los Angeles Lakers guard currently holds the league record for the best true shooting percentage by a guard, achieving 63.2%. This mark surpasses that of Stephen Curry, who ranks second at 62.6%.
In the initial three games of the current season, Reaves has posted an outstanding true shooting percentage of 82%. He is also averaging career-highs in points per game (26.7), field goal percentage (63.9%), three-point percentage (61.5%), and assists (6.3).
The impressive performance comes after Reaves signed a four-year, $180 million contract with the Lakers this offseason, which is the richest deal in NBA history for an undrafted player. His play has been instrumental in the Lakers' 3-0 start to the season.
Lakers coach JJ Redick described Reaves' contribution as "Mr. Consistency" through the first three games. Luka Doncic, who reportedly expressed a desire to play alongside Reaves, praised his efficiency, stating, "Obviously his efficiency, it’s off the roof. And just to have him next to me, leading this team, it’s awesome."
