Ashley Cole has left his position as head coach of Italian second-tier club Cesena, only three months after taking on the role. The 45-year-old, who was handed his first managerial opportunity in March, departed following discussions with the club's sporting director about a shift in strategy.

Cole managed eight matches for the Serie B side, securing one victory. Cesena finished the season in 11th place, missing out on the play-offs. Reports at the time of his appointment indicated that Cole needed to meet certain conditions to be offered an extended contract, and his arrival had also faced some backlash from Cesena supporters who had opposed the dismissal of his predecessor, Michele Mignani.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Cole expressed gratitude to the players and staff and stated his pride in bringing his experience to the club. "Following recent discussions with the Sporting Director regarding a change in the club’s strategy, I have decided that it is best for me to move on," Cole wrote. "I leave with great respect for all the people there, as well as the fans, and look forward to my next challenge."

Since retiring as a player in 2019, Cole has engaged in coaching roles. He previously served as an assistant to Frank Lampard at Everton and Chelsea, and held a similar position at Birmingham City under Wayne Rooney. He also had coaching stints with the Football Association, including with the England U21 national team and as an assistant to the senior squad.

Cole had a distinguished playing career, making over 700 appearances. As a defender, he won the Champions League and a Premier League title with Chelsea, along with four FA Cups. Earlier in his career, he achieved two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal. Cole also played in Italy for AS Roma before concluding his playing career at Derby County.
