Arthur Fery has reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after a dramatic five-set victory over Grigor Dimitrov. The British wildcard, ranked outside the top 100, staged a remarkable comeback on Centre Court to stun the former world number three.

Fery won the thrilling encounter with a 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-7) scoreline. He twice came back from a break down in the fourth set to secure the biggest win of his career.

The 23-year-old Fery is the first wildcard in the men's singles to reach the Wimbledon last eight since Nick Kyrgios in 2014. Historically, only Goran Ivanisevic in 2001 has gone on to win the title as a wildcard.

Fery's progression comes as a significant bright spot for British tennis, which had faced a predominantly gloomy outlook earlier in the tournament. Many of the 19 Britons in the singles draws failed to advance past the first round, with notable absences due to injury.

He will now face Italian ninth seed Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals. Regardless of the outcome of that match, Fery will celebrate his 24th birthday on Sunday.

"What I experienced today, I'm going to cherish for the rest of my life," Fery said after his victory. "Who knows, maybe I will never get to experience that ever again. It's the first time I'm playing on this stage. That might be the first and last time - but hopefully not."
