Wildcard Arthur Fery has reached the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships, a feat that mirrors the storyline of the 2004 film "Wimbledon," starring Paul Bettany.

Fery, who entered the tournament ranked outside the top 100, has become the sole British player to advance to the second week. He secured his semi-final spot by defeating ninth seed Flavio Cobolli in straight sets. His next match is against second seed Alexander Zverev.

The 2004 film depicted a once-renowned tennis star, played by Bettany, who slips to 119th in the world rankings. His character secures a wildcard entry for Wimbledon and, against expectations, fights his way to the title.

Fery's run has made him only the fifth wildcard entry in the open era to reach the quarter-finals, and the first British wildcard to achieve this at a Grand Slam. The only wildcard to win a Wimbledon title is Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.

His journey to the last four has guaranteed him at least £900,000 in prize money. He has also experienced on-court nosebleeds during matches, a recurring issue he plans to address.

Fery has a history at Wimbledon, reaching the boys' doubles semi-finals in 2019 and the main competition's mixed doubles third round in 2021. He also pursued a tennis scholarship at Stanford University in California. This year, he also reached the second round of the Australian Open in January.

Despite dual nationality and family ties to France, Fery stated his strong connection to Britain. "I feel very British, I live here, all my best friends live here, I went to school here, I train here," he said, emphasizing his roots in London.

Fery's fourth-round victory over Grigor Dimitrov was a five-set comeback, supported by the home crowd. "I was just trying to keep fighting, having a good attitude, committing to what I'm trying to do - playing really well with my back against the wall, paid off," he commented on his resilience.

Among the spectators for Fery's matches was eight-time champion Roger Federer, whose presence Fery acknowledged as an incredible experience.
