Arsenal's Appeal for Max Dowman's Red Card Rejected by FA

The Football Association has rejected Arsenal's appeal against the red card issued to 16-year-old Max Dowman, upholding his three-match ban. Dowman was sent off in the 86th minute of Arsenal's Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town for kicking out in retaliation to a challenge by Fleetwood's Harrison Neal. Neal received a yellow card for the incident, while Dowman was dismissed for violent conduct. Manager Mikel Arteta was visibly displeased with the young player's actions on the field.

As a result of the ban, Dowman will miss Arsenal's upcoming Premier League fixtures against Liverpool, Hull City, and Newcastle. This is the second red card Dowman has received this month, having also been sent off while representing England's Under-19 team.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour commented on the incident, suggesting that while Dowman was "a little unlucky," he needs to learn from the experience. "He's got to learn from it, that's all," Parlour stated. "I'm sure Mikel pulled him to the side. He's 16 years old remember, he's still a kid."

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes the Gunners youngster was 'a little unlucky' to be sent off

Parlour reflected on the nature of the challenge, noting that while such tackles occurred frequently in his playing era, the rules have evolved. "It's a challenge that happened all the time in my era, but obviously the rules have changed," he said. "He’s gone for the ball but it’s a bit reckless. I thought Max was a little bit unlucky in what the scenario was, legs all tangled up in this way, but he reacted a little bit."

Parlour also shared his views on Mikel Arteta's management at Arsenal, expressing confidence that the manager has the opportunity to build a dominant era for the club, comparable to Pep Guardiola's success at Manchester City. "He's got a great opportunity now to really, really dominate like Man City have done under Pep," Parlour remarked. "He's got a great young squad of players. Everybody's going in the right direction... He’s done a brilliant job and people have given him time."
