Arizona State University hockey player and St. Louis Blues draft pick Matthew Mayich remains hospitalized after collapsing during an off-ice training session last week. The university confirmed that a student-athlete, a member of the ASU hockey team, collapsed during an outdoor exercise session on Thursday and is receiving medical treatment.

The university is not releasing the player's name due to privacy concerns, but it was later confirmed to be Mayich. The 21-year-old, who is from Stoney Creek, Ontario, was selected by the Blues as the 170th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

"The entire Blues organization is keeping Matthew Mayich close to our hearts as we pray for his comfort and recovery while he continues to undergo medical treatment in Arizona," St. Louis president of hockey operations Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "His agent has kept us informed about Matthew’s medical status over the last week and we extend our deepest support to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."

Mayich played four seasons with the Ottawa 67's in the Ontario Hockey League before transferring to Clarkson University for the NCAA season. He had recently transferred to Arizona State for the upcoming college hockey season.

The Ontario Hockey League also released a statement, with commissioner Bryan Crawford saying, "Our thoughts are with Matthew, his parents John and Christina and the entire Mayich family. Matthew spent four seasons in our league and earned the respect of everyone he played with and against. The entire Ontario Hockey League is thinking of him and pulling for him, and we are keeping his family close in our thoughts."

The university's vice president of media relations, Chris Fiscus, stated that ASU is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the workout.
