Twenty-three runners representing seven countries participated in races at the Arctic's geographic North Pole, an event organizers have called the "world's coolest marathon."
The competition took place on drifting sea ice. Competitors arrived at the location aboard the French polar vessel Le Commandant Charcot.
Runners completed laps of a 1,055-meter loop on the ice. They were required to wear thermal gear and life vests for safety.
Rikke Dam of Denmark won the women's race with a time of 6 hours, 54 minutes, and 2 seconds. Wang Shengxian of China secured the men's title in 3 hours, 52 minutes, and 22 seconds.
