Antony's Home Burgled While Playing in Champions League

Former Manchester United player Antony revealed that his home was burgled while he was competing in a Champions League match this week. The 26-year-old Brazilian was playing for Real Betis in their 3-2 victory over Porto on Tuesday.

Antony took to social media on Thursday to describe the incident, expressing sadness and anger over the break-in. "It's hard to describe the feeling of having your home broken into," he wrote on his Instagram story. "Everything we worked so hard for and poured our hearts into obtaining was taken by someone who has no idea how much hardship we went through to get it."

He stated that the most infuriating aspect was not the loss of belongings, but the erosion of security and the fear it instilled in his family. "The unease in my family's eyes," he continued. "But after all this, one thing makes me even more certain: in this world, no possession is more precious than the lives and safety of my family."

Despite the ordeal, Antony expressed a determination to persevere. "What was lost, we can earn back. The effort will not stop, the dream remains, and the determination to win has not diminished in the slightest," he said. He concluded by emphasizing that his family's well-being is his greatest asset.

Antony, who grew up in poverty in a Sao Paulo favela, has previously spoken about his challenging upbringing, recounting instances of not having proper footwear or enough to eat, and sleeping on a sofa in a flood-prone house. He has often cited his past struggles as motivation.

This incident is not the first time a high-profile footballer has been targeted while playing. Ruben Dias, Karim Benzema, and Raheem Sterling have also had their homes burgled during matches or major tournaments.
