Anthony Edwards to Undergo Knee Surgery, Out for Two Months
Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards will miss approximately two months following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without All-Star guard Anthony Edwards for an estimated two months as he is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, according to ESPN. The procedure comes after Edwards was initially deemed questionable for the Timberwolves' Monday night game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a contest in which he played 41 minutes and scored 47 points, despite the team's overtime loss.
The injury is believed to have occurred during the Timberwolves' victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, where Edwards was observed reaching for his right knee. Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch had previously described the injury as a "daily situation," indicating a less severe outlook than the upcoming extended absence suggests.
This is not the first time Edwards has dealt with knee issues. He experienced runner's knee on the same leg last season, which caused him to miss time late in the regular season. He also sustained a hyperextended left knee during the first round of the playoffs. Edwards missed a career-high 21 games last year, and had expressed taking time during the summer to rest his knees, with no issues reported during training camp.
Edwards was off to a strong start this season, becoming one of four players in NBA history with multiple 45-point performances in their team's first four games. His 47-point opening night performance against the Miami Heat marked a notable highlight. The team will now rely on players like Ayo Dosunmu and Bones Hyland to help fill the void left by Edwards' absence, along with other starters like LaMelo Ball.
