Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has adopted a playbook element from one of his biggest rivals, reportedly offering to pay for his teammates' flights to Paris for an upcoming team workout.
This move follows a similar generous gesture by Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, who in late July offered to host the entire Mavericks roster in Slovenia for a four-day minicamp, covering all their travel expenses. Both Edwards and his new teammate LaMelo Ball are said to be funding the flights for the Timberwolves' trip to Paris.
The trip to Paris is also significant as it is the offseason home of the Timberwolves' French center, Rudy Gobert, potentially adding to the team-building aspect of the workout.
Edwards, entering the upcoming season with a salary of $49 million, appears to be fostering camaraderie within the Timberwolves' revamped roster, which includes the addition of Ball. Doncic, who is set to earn nearly $50 million himself, was lauded for his leadership in organizing and funding the Slovenia camp for the Mavericks.
Both star guards have a history of competitive matchups on the court, and now they seem to be competing in acts of generosity towards their respective teams. The reports suggest that Doncic covered the costs for the Mavericks' trip on his own, while Edwards has Ball sharing the expense for the Timberwolves' Paris excursion.
