Los Angeles Angels interim general manager John Mozeliak indicated that the team is not yet actively engaged in trade deadline discussions, with a primary focus on the upcoming Major League Baseball draft. Mozeliak, speaking on MLB Network Radio on Sunday, stated that while he has received some inquiries via text, no significant player names have been exchanged.

He anticipates that trade conversations will intensify after the MLB draft concludes. This period will allow the team to better assess its current roster, understand its standing, and evaluate the potential market for its players. Mozeliak emphasized that any potential trades must offer long-term value and contribute to a positive internal dynamic for the franchise.

The Angels are considered an intriguing team as the trade deadline approaches, possessing several players who could be moved, including Jose Soriano, Reid Detmers, and Jo Adell. Reports suggest the Angels have the potential to influence trade market dynamics.

Historically, the Angels have been hesitant to become sellers at the trade deadline, sometimes holding onto prospects longer than strategically beneficial. This approach was noted in 2023 when then-general manager Perry Minasian reportedly had opportunities to trade Shohei Ohtani before his offseason departure to the Dodgers, a decision influenced by owner Arte Moreno.

Under Mozeliak's interim leadership, there has been a call for a shift in the team's operational approach. "My overall take right now is this club is not where we need it to be," Mozeliak said. "We’re not winning baseball games; we’re finding ways to lose instead of win. That can be frustrating for our fans. It can be frustrating for the people that are here every day and for the players. So we know something has to be done differently."
